Is My Child Using Enough Words

Children grow so fast. A significant step in their development is the beginning of communication; and we’re so excited to start having chats with our little ones. But sometimes, they don’t seem to be using many words and are getting increasingly frustrated. Some frustration is typical, but below are some age ranges at which expected skills begin to emerge.

At 8-12 months: the use of gestures (pointing, pulling, showing and brining things to you)

At 11-15 months: starting to use a few words, like calling a parent or a single verb or request (mama, go, up, more)

At 16-26 months: 50 words and beginning to put to words together (bye dad, more water, up please, car go)

After that language continues to grow in volume and complexity, unless complicating incidents impact development.

I hope that helps you as you watch your little ones grow and change.
